Larry Aarons

Portrait Artist – Larry Aarons is a true native New Yorker from the Bronx NY.

Larry graduated from The School of Visual Arts in New York City (SVA) where he studied both drawing and painting with the leading artists such as Harvey Dinerstein, Milton Glaser and many others. While attending SVA he also worked part time in some famous artist studios learning various art techniques and approaches including fine art restoration.

During his time at SVA he was introduced to the emerging field of “advertising.” The opportunity to bring his art and creativity to this creative explosion was truly unique. Larry begun this exciting journey and was part of the greatest period of the golden age of advertising A “Real Mad Man”.

For the next four plus decades he held positions as a creative director in addition to running his own advertising agency. During his career he was considered a top creative mind in the creative field. Throughout his advertising career he continued to study the art classics. In 2012 he left that world and returned to his first love-art.

Larry has had many group and one man shows in NYC, on Long Island and has shown in Miami Art Basel in addition he has had his art in the 2016 Long Island Biennial at the Heckscher Museum. He has won numerous awards here are just some of the most famous ones.

His famous “Myths of Man” portraits have a broad emotional appeal and he has recently been honored with a 50 piece retrospective show. His choice to show his Robert De Niro portrait is in the actors’ private collection, Hollywood is the true myth of man. Many articles and feature stories have been written about Larry and his art.
Larry shares his portrait style and teaches a course “The 60 minute power charcoal portrait” at the Art League of LI for the past two years and is a guest instructor at the Artist Studio teaching seminars.
