Native Long Islander MaryAnn Scheblein-Dawson has been an Origami Specialist for more than 20 years. Origami started out as a hobby but soon became her passion and then her career! She now designs individualized programs for corporate team building, schools, libraries and museums, private home workshops, children’s parties, bar and bat mitzvahs, women’s clubs and scout groups, as well as regular classes at the Art League of Long Island. Her clear and concise directions and calm demeanor help her student to achieve success and helps them to feel more self-confident, relaxed and free.
In 2009 MaryAnn became a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT). Zentangle is now a worldwide phenomenon that employs the drawing of simple, repeated shapes to create miniature pieces of art. This technique helps people relax, lower their stress levels, and consciously shift focus. The idea of Zentangle is a mindful, meditative practice which has a by-product of a piece of art! The method is used effectively by artists to help unlock and release creativity but even therapists and clinicians can incorporate it in helping patients and their families deal with the stress of illnesses and recovery. Zentangle is a life skill applicable to just about any stressful situation!
