Diversity in Our Lives Art Exhibition

“Diversity in Our Lives” Art Exhibition Opens at the Art League of Long Island May 25

In the Art League of Long Island’s latest juried exhibition artists from the Tri-State NY area were asked to submit their interpretations of Diversity. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. The Art League of Long Island hopes, through this exhibition, to encourage understanding of each other and move beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.

Out of 205 entries 66 works of art were selected for display in the exhibition by juror Thomas Germano, Professor of Art and Art History at Farmingdale State College. The list of participating artists is posted online at www.artleagueli.org. The exhibit is on view in the Art League’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery May 25 through June 23. An artists’ reception is being held Sunday, June 9, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Exhibition Juror Thomas Germano will host a juror talk on Saturday, June 22 at 11am.
