This two-year intensive certificate program is designed for learners who want both deep conceptual understanding and hands-on studio experience.

• Students complete six studio courses over three semesters during the first year, with opportunities to study metalworking, pastels, textiles, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media.
• Participants will choose a mentor from a group to receive feedback on their creative processes and artwork each semester.
• The program concludes with a Capstone focused on exhibition preparatorship and curatorship, featuring a 4-week group exhibition in the beautiful Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery

There is a one-time application fee of $60, plus four installment payments of $3,750 spread over two years.

The program fee includes:

Year One

• Three semesters: Winter 2027, Summer 2027, and Fall 2027
• Three six-week block of classes each semester
• 18 total class hours per semester (54 class hours for the first year)
• Three mentor meetings per semester
• Students may choose a different mentor each semester
• 9 total mentor meetings during the first year

Year Two

• Three mentor meetings per semester
• Students may choose a different mentor each semester
• 9 total mentor meetings during the second year
• Open studio hours for capstone project completion
• Participation in a shared exhibition with other certificate students
• Group four-week exhibition at Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery from Sept 23 – Oct 21, 2028
• Up to 10 pieces exhibited per student

Description of the Program:

During the first year, students are encouraged to experiment boldly and discover new creative possibilities through hands-on study in a variety of mediums with Art League instructors. All students will begin with the Speculative Studio workshop.  From there, students are able to explore media including metalworking, ceramics, painting, drawing, pastels, textiles, mixed media, and more. This foundational year is designed to expand artistic horizons, build technical skills, and help students uncover the mediums and processes that resonate most deeply with them.

In the second year, students transition from exploration to artistic focus, concentrating on a primary medium while developing a cohesive body of work under the guidance of experienced instructors and mentors. Throughout the year, each student will work toward the creation of five original pieces to be exhibited in the prestigious Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery at the culmination of the program — a celebratory exhibition showcasing the student’s artistic growth, vision, and achievement.

A defining feature of the program is mentorship. Each semester, students have the opportunity to work closely with a mentor of their choice, gaining individualized guidance, professional insight, encouragement, and support throughout their artistic journey.

 All students will receive ongoing assistance on building websites, writing artist statements, and applying to open calls, residencies, and funding opportunities.
