Empty Bowls: A Successful Fundraiser Benefits LI Veterans

The Art League of Long Island, in collaboration with the Suffolk County Council VFW, hosted a community fundraising event November 10, 2019.

The Art League of Long Island, in collaboration with the Suffolk County Council VFW, hosted a successful community fundraising event known internationally as “Empty Bowls” on Sunday, November 10.

Several hundred people came out in support of veterans served by the Suffolk County Council VFW. Donations will fund programs that serve LI veterans with nutritious groceries through food pantries and deliveries to homebound, disabled veterans unable to access their local pantries. In addition, Suffolk County Legislator Susan Berland, who Chairs the Veteran’s Committee, and State Senator Jim Gaughran paid a visit in support of our veterans.

More than 250 ceramic bowls were created several weeks prior by more than 30 artists and ceramicists at the Art League of Long Island’s ceramics center. With each $20 donation, event goers selected a ceramic bowl and had the opportunity to share a bowl of soup and salad in community with others. The ceramic bowls that guests took home with them will serve as reminders of those less fortunate.
