Nature lovers and ecologists will thrive in this all levels painting workshop that celebrates the wonders of the bodies that make up our forest networks - the mighty tree. Students may work in the paint of their choice - either acrylic or oil (watercolors will not be covered in this course). In this workshop, students will work from reference photos of trees that speak to them to paint stunning 20" x 40" tree portraits. Students will provide their own pictures of trees up close and personal, with attention to bark markings and textures, angles, color, light, and mood. Shain Bard will guide students through the exciting and meditative process of translating their tree pictures on the canvas, along the way learning the important art concepts of shared edges, positive and negative shapes and interchange, and composition. At the end of the course, students may choose to hang their tree portraits together in the Art League's strolling gallery, creating our own enchanted forest.

She sees the Expressive Arts as an important link in maintaining health and well being , for fine tuning our inner experiences, vitality and awareness, to meet outside challenges. As part of her belief that teachers and healers need to recharge themselves in order to assist others, the workshop offers tools for discovery in a supportive, friendly atmosphere, with music. The use of guided imagery with music, contributes to our discoveries. In addition to being a professional.exhibiting artist, Connie has conducted courses for the Staff Development Center of the Islips, served on the faculties of School of Visual Arts, East Islip School District, Art League of Long Island, Usdan Center for the Arts, Hofstra Graduate Art Therapy Center as well as presenting member of the American Art Therapy Delegation to China in May 1995. Drawing from extensive anatomical texts, and working with the model, this course will deepen all artist’s understanding of human form, and how to depict it in their own work. This course is not designed to introduce a style, per se, but rather, equips the students to incorporate the human figure in their work, as they desire.Experienced Exhibiting Artists are welcome to bring one-three, 2D and/or 3D works to share in an interactive supportive group
critique with a limit to 10 minutes per participant. The group size is limited to 10 artists.
The group discussion is moderated by Lori Horowitz, local and Internationally exhibiting artist, independent curator, and former director of Studio 5404 Art Space.

Painting loosely requires the ability to let go of controlling watercolor and allowing your paint to move freely on the paper. Losing control while painting can be a painter's worst nightmare - but in this workshop losing control is what makes or breaks these dramatic landscapes. Mastering the loose technique will create a movement of pigment and water to acheive stunning shapes and designs.
Are you ready to put paint on paper and let it flow?
Let's unlock our creativity and allow the watercolor paints to take us on a journey and see what is possible when we let it flow.
No drawing skills required - all skill levels welcome. [OnlineRegistrationHideTuition] => [Level] => All Levels [MinimumDueAtRegistration] => 140 [SupplyList] => Brushes: #10 round or larger, 2" flat, #4 rigger (and any brushes you like painting with)
Paint: These landscapes can be painted in any colors you like. Here are a few colors the instructor will be painting with:
Raw umber - raw sienna - yellow ochre - prussian blue - mineral violet - quinn rose - olive green - quinn gold
Tubes of paint only - we will be squeezing paint directly from the tubes. Bring any colors you have.
Paper: 4 pieces of 11" x 15" 140 lb watercolor paper
A full sheet (22" x 30") can be broken down to smaller sizes. I highly recommend you purchase Arches 140lb or 300lb. The techniques we will be using only work on high quality paper.
Additional Supplies: masking tape and a board to hold paper, spray bottle of water, and old towel or cookie sheet for dripping paint on, 2 large water containers, paper towels, a palette with a large mixing area, and old/used credit card or gift card. This list contains essential supplies needed to participate in this workshop.

All you need is clay, your hands, and access to an oven at home. Join Lesley DeLia, a recent winner of the 2021 International Polymer Clay Association's Global Competition, in exploring the world of polymer clay and discovering the endless possibilities of what is so often misdiagnosed as a craft medium.
In this workshop, students will learn to condition polymer clay and use it to make visually exciting cane patterns. You will learn how to slice the cane accurately and apply it in order to create cover to a glass votive cup. Participants will be sent home with the raw clay cup along with instructions on how to safely bake it at home. There should be enough cane leftover for all participants to bring home excess cane to create another full independent project at home. [OnlineRegistrationHideTuition] => [Level] => All Levels [MinimumDueAtRegistration] => 140 [SupplyList] => All working materials for this workshop are included. Participants should bring a shoebox or similarly sized box to transport their work home, along with some aluminum foil to wrap their piece, and a 3 x 5 index card. Flowers are a subject most artists love to paint, and in this workshop you will explore a totally unique way of creating flowers. Negative painting combined with the technique of blowing watercolor paint will allow you to paint unrestricted and completely outside of the lines. Seeing the flower shapes within an abstract wash is the beginning of the process. Layering flowers that are filled with colors & movement will define your individual style and end results. This is a must try technique for all artists. Whether you are an experienced artist or just started painting with watercolor, this is a great way to loosen up your artwork. And best of all you do not need any drawing skills for this class.
Painting flowers can be fun. This workshop will show you a new way of imagining and envisioning flowers in a way that you haven't likely encountered before. [OnlineRegistrationHideTuition] => [Level] => All Levels [MinimumDueAtRegistration] => 140 [SupplyList] => Brushes:Paint:

Whether it's a glowing sunrise or a stunning sunset, painting the beauty of a natural moment is the dream of the artist. In this workshop we will explore the use of watercolor, big brushes, and big brushstrokes to create skies that are filled with color and movement. Watercolor applied that is applied to paper and then allowed to mix & flow can help us achieve heavenly results. Layering washes will give us translucent colorful skies which will be reflected in the water below. Adding a small amount of details in our foregrounds will ground our skies and create stunning final results.
