Dear Art League Family,
Artists will always need a place to show and sell their work, and there’s no better place than the Art League’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery. This beautiful, bi-level atrium style gallery is a showplace for fine artwork by some of Long Island’s best artists.
The “Big Picture” exhibition, still on display through June 30th attracted a large crowd to the reception on Sunday, June 10th. The show has a variety of styles, mediums and sensibilities that appeal to a diverse audience of art lovers.
Recently I’ve been speaking with directors and gallery coordinators at art centers like ours to ask how they are doing with artwork sales. One director shared that he thinks people still believe you have to go to New York City to buy fine art. The truth is, there’s plenty of fine art all over Long Island. And it doesn’t have to come with an astronomical price tag.
The pleasure of buying original art from a Long Island artist at the Art League can be an eye opening and worthwhile experience. Donna Harlow Moraff, prize-winning Art League artist and Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America sent me the following. It really hit a cord with me, as I’m deeply aware of how much heart and soul, years of practice and dedication it takes to call oneself an artist. Donna said when she reads this it moves her to tears…………
