DIRECTOR’S CORNER

June 2023

I am still, and often, asked about how the Art League is managing in our post-COVID world.  This month I am so happy to tell you that yes, we are  bouncing back and do we have a variety of fun things coming up for you!  And, I can’t wait to tell you about them.

As I write, we are busy preparing to bring back to you the final piece of the Art League which was suspended due to COVID – our beloved Art in the Park event on June 3rd and 4th from 10am-5pm at Heckscher Park.  I hope you join us for our signature event because we are beyond thrilled to bring this beloved event back to the community.  This year, it is part of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce’s Public Art Crawl on June 3rd.  Make sure to come early and support our exhibiting artists!  We are proud to be supported this year by Legislator Stephanie Bontempi and Town Supervisor Ed Smythe.

Many of you reminisce with delightful fondness at the jazz performances once held at the Art League.  We have heard you and we have planned a new fundraising event this summer – Please Save the Date for The Return of Jazz to the Art League.  Join us on August 26th at 5pm as we welcome Juilliard jazz performers in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery and light cocktails under the tent.  Tickets can be pre-purchased here.  Members, purchase your tickets early and receive a free cocktail!

And for something new – Save the Date of October 21st for our Made with Mud, Kissed by Fire fundraiser to raise funds for Ceramics Studios.  Join us for an evening of demonstration, raffles, and light fare.   Each attendee will leave with a complimentary bowl or mug donated to the event by our instructors and volunteers.

We continue to rebuild from our losses incurred from the pandemic, and we are looking to the future.  We can’t do it without your support.  Check out our catalogue for our upcoming class schedule, and join us for our current exhibition opening.  The best way to support the Art League is to keep your membership current, and to continue to donate to our Annual Appeal.  (You can also double your donation by checking to see if your employer has a matching gift program – ask me how).

May 2023

We are officially into the throes of spring and as I type, I find myself bewildered that the first third of the year has come and gone!

We are busy, busy, busy preparing for our Art in the Park festivities on June 3rd and 4th at Heckscher Park, returning this beloved event back to the community.  This year, we have the support of Legislator Stephanie Bontempi and of Supervisor Ed Smyth – please take a moment to thank them and the rest of the Town of Huntington Parks Department staff for assisting us with this event.  Please join us on both days and support our exhibiting artists who will be selling their handmade fine art.

We continue to be just as busy in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery.  You have just a few more days to enter your artwork into our Big Picture exhibition!  This exhibition will be on view next month.  I am looking forward to seeing all of your submissions and the final exhibition, jurored by Simon Levenson.

We’ve added more classes to our roster, including some on Wednesdays for the summer!  Check out our class catalogue here.  And, we have added more programs to our Summer Art Adventure Program too, bringing it back to five weeks this summer!  Registration is open for SAA and our Summer Pre-College Portfolio Program.

While we continue to rebuild from our losses incurred from the pandemic, we are looking to the future to bring you exciting new classes, challenging workshops, and stimulating exhibitions.  We can’t do it without your support. Please fuel your creativity, expand our programs, give to our future, and push the button. . . Donate to the Art League today!

Thank you, as always.
