November 2015

The 60th Annual Members’ Exhibition opens November 8 with Part One showcasing works by 130 artists. You are welcome to attend the opening reception on the 8th at 1pm as we celebrate the talent on display.

In answer to the many questions we have received, we anticipate release of the upcoming catalog by early December. The new catalog will contain class & workshop information for classes beginning January through May 2016.

Please join us for three upcoming events in November and early December. First up is TRYDAY Night on Friday, November 13. Starting at 6:30 pm visitors can catch live art demos by Anu Annam, David Peikon, and Suzanne Young. Also part of the activities are Open Mic Poetry Readings by Poets Aloud. There is no charge to participate in these two activities. Curious about jewelry making, abstract painting, pastel painting, or digital art? Starting at 7pm spend three hours getting a taste of Dana Neger-Lagos, Kevin Larkin, Joel Spector, and David Miller’s multiple session workshops. Read more about TRYDAY Night below.

Then on November 15 at 2pm, Ellen Hallie Schiff’s Art Talk will help you navigate the ins and outs of marketing your talent and selling your art. Ellen’s Art Talk is the 11th of the 2015 Lecture Series. We are grateful to the Suffolk County Office of Cultural affairs for providing funding for this program.

Last but not least is the Art League’s 52nd Holiday Fine Art & Craft Fair on December 5 & 6. This event grows bigger and bigger each year with larger crowds and a variety of art and craft to suit everybody’s holiday shopping needs. If you would like to show and sell your work, you have until November 11 to register for space at the fair.

As the season of giving approaches, please consider the many ways you can give to the Art League, whether it is volunteering your time at the fair, helping hang the next exhibit, donating directly towards programs, or just clicking on the iGive button as you shop online for gifts (see info on that below). Any form of support is greatly appreciated and strengthens the Art League’s place in the community.

The community came together with a great turnout at the Open House held August 29. The Open House featured live art demonstrations, an artists’ reception celebrating the opening of the Instructors’ Exhibition, and a peek into our art studios. Many thanks to the instructors who took the time to demonstrate their craft in the Art League’s studios and the volunteers who helped out at the event. Visit the gallery now through September 20 and learn about the Art League’s many talented instructors.

Fall classes are just beginning, many more have yet to start. We are excited to bring the interactive catalog available to you, as we hope it makes shopping for your favorite class easier than before. Please bear with as we transition to being as paper-free as possible, so that we may save a few trees and be less dependent on paper, and in the process cut down on unnecessary costs. If you still prefer to receive a catalog in the mail, please request a mailing by calling the office at (631) 462-5400 x222 or emailing us at info@artleagueli.org.

Make the Art League your destination for art and culture this fall, starting with Victoria Crosby’s presentation on England’s Royal Palaces on September 20. We are proud to host Antonio Masi’s Modern Approach to Watercolor Workshop on September 25, 26 & 27 and have Max Ginsburg present his Weekend Workshop in Oil Painting October 3 and 4. The first of Fall’s TRY-DAY nights on October 9 is like Art After Dark with a twist. Free admission to the event includes free art demonstrations beginning at 6:30pm, exhibits by local artists and live music. And… for those who are inclined, pending space in the studio, you can try out a three hour workshop starting at 7:00pm for $35, all materials included. Learn more about upcoming events by visiting our website at www.artleagueli.org.

The Art League reached an important milestone this year, having been a part of the Long Island art scene since 1955. Please join us in celebrating the Art League’s 60th year by making a gift now, as generously as you can. We are a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, so your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Call to pledge your support or visit online at www.artleagueli.og. Thank you for all the ways you support the Art League of Long Island. We continue to grow because you know the value of a quality art education, art for art’s sake and the benefit of living in or near communities that appreciate art.
