June 2013

These last six months since joining the Art League have been an exhilarating experience. I have gotten to know many of the wonderful people who make the Art League hum. Seeing you in the studios, at receptions, at Art After Dark, and at the Art in the Park Fine Art & Craft Fair reveals the great love and commitment we all have for the Art League.

Our instructors are a major part of the fabric that holds the Art League together. I’d like to take this time to congratulate six of them right now for their recent outstanding accomplishments in the art world. Nanette Fluhr has three paintings that are part of a six-city national museum tour of American Realist Painting in China, which began in September 2012 and ends this December. Donna Moraff was recently awarded first place at The Phoenix Gallery Portrait/Figure Show for her pastel portrait “Black & White”, and was awarded second place at The Phoenix Gallery Spring Awakenings Show for her watercolor floral “Glorious Glads”. Denis Ponsot is off to Tuscany to teach Tuscan Landscape painting workshops June 29 through July 6. This July LaMantia Gallery in Northport pays homage to award-winning watercolorist Ward Hooper with a retrospective exhibition spanning 20 years. Susie Gach Peelle has been selected as the Town of Oyster Bay’s “Woman of Distinction” in the category of Arts for 2013. Stan Brodsky is part of the AB-EX/RE-CON: Abstract Expressionism Reconsidered exhibit showing at the Nassau County Museum of Art through June 16. On April 27 independent curator Kenneth Wayne, Ph.D., presented a talk on Stan Brodsky and his current work in abstract expressionism.

Art League students can feel confident in their studies knowing they have such talented instructors!

Thank you,

Charlee Miller, Executive Director,

Art League of Long Island
